Since the hurricane made landfall in September 2005, Rita caused some 2.2 billion in property damage, according to most estimates. Countless homes, businesses, churches, schools and government offices were damaged. Unfortunately, many of the insured soon found that their legitimate claims were either being delayed, denied, or underpaid by insurance companies.
Steve Mostyn and his team of dedicated attorneys and investigators saw the pattern of evasive practices and decided to get involved. In courthouses all across Texas, from Galveston to the Rio Grande Valley to Austin, Mostyn Law uncovered tens of thousands of cases of insurers’ misconduct.
To do so, Mostyn’s team spent thousands of hours reviewing millions of pages of documents, emails and internal memos from insurers. Steve Mostyn, his wife Amber Anderson Mostyn and his partners and associates also hired engineers and experts to prove that insurers had denied, delayed or underpaid billions in claims.
ABC News took notice, among other media, and the firm’s work sparked a criminal investigation of one major national insurer and a U.S. Department of Justice investigation of another.
Sometimes it takes a determined lawyer to make firms like State Farm or Allstate live up to their end of the bargain. The results of this determination produced significant settlements for thousands of families. These settlements allowed homeowners to re-build and restore what, for many, is their principal investment most valuable asset–their home.
